We have lived and worked in Colonsay since 1978 - we owned and operated the hotel for the first twenty years and we still operate self-catering properties at Longfield (4 star), Cill a' Rubha (4 star) and Phoebe (mini-lodge, 3 star).
We also have a publishing business, House of Lochar, with over 80 titles in print; we operate this in conjunction with Colonsay Bookshop, which stocks new and antiquarian books, also postcards, maps and gifts. Our bookshop is close to the harbour, next door to Colonsaty Brewery! See http://www.houseoflochar.com
We transcribed all the Old Parish Register records, also all Graveyard Inscriptions and all census returns 1841 until 1911. All these important family history resources can be seen at http://www.colonsay.info together with a newsletter, Colonsay KIndred.
Kevin has written many articles about Colonsay history, and published a list of all "Placenames of Colonsay and Oransay" that appear on the Ordnance Survey map, together with notes of interest; also "Colkitto! A Celebration of Clan Donald of Colonsay 1570 - 1647". He also wrote and published "Lonely Colonsay - Island at the Edge", a guide to the history and topography of the island (see our Products page for details).
Our history newsletter Colonsay Cornucopia is at http://www.colonsayhistory.info
We offer our 4 star holiday cottages by the week, and a 3 star lodge from as little as two nights. See http://www.colonsay.eu
